LifeKeeper is a digital memorial platform ("LifeKeeper") operated by LifeTrace Technologies ("LifeTrace," "we," "us," or "our"). that allows users to create, store, and share the legacies of their loved ones. This Privacy Policy details the methods by which we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information and the sensitive memorial data entrusted to us. Our commitment is to ensure the privacy and security of all data in compliance with relevant data protection principles.

2. Information We Collect

LifeTrace Technologies collects information necessary to provide and maintain the LifeKeeper service, which is broadly categorized into Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Memorial Data.

2.1. Personally Identifiable Information (PII)

This information is collected when you register for an account and manage a memorial:

  • Identity and Contact Information: Your name, email address, phone number, and login credentials. This data is essential for account creation, security, communication, and billing purposes.
  • Billing Information: Last 4 digits of a credit card number and expiry (if applicable for premium services).
  • Usage Data: Information about how you interact with the platform, including Internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, ISP, referring/exit pages, files viewed, operating system, date/time stamp, and clickstream data. This is used to analyze trends and administer the site.

2.2. Memorial Data (Memorial Profile Information)

This is the content you upload to create the digital memorial for the deceased:

  • Biographical Details: Full name, dates of birth and death, biographies, and tributes.
  • Media Content: Photos, videos, and audio recordings.
  • Location Information: Grave number, cemetery location, and other data related to the physical location of the memorial, used specifically for the grave locator feature.

3. How We Use Your Information

LifeTrace Technologies uses the collected information for the following primary purposes:

  • Service Provision: To provide, maintain, and improve the LifeKeeper platform, including enabling the creation, storage, and sharing of memorial profiles.
  • Security and Integrity: To ensure the security of user accounts, protect stored data, and prevent fraudulent or unauthorized activity.
  • Communication: To communicate with you regarding your account, service updates, and to respond to your inquiries.
  • Analytics: To analyze platform usage and performance, allowing us to enhance the user experience and optimize our services.

4. Sharing and Disclosure of Information

LifeTrace Technologies is committed to protecting your personal information and we do not sell your personal information to third parties. Information may be shared in the following circumstances:

Public Memorial Content:

Memorial Data, including photos, biographies, and location data, is intended to be public and is accessible to anyone who scans the unique QR code or accesses the memorial link. This public content is not considered Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and is not protected by the same privacy safeguards. By uploading this content, you consent to its public display and acknowledge that we cannot control the actions of other users who may copy or store it.

Service Providers

We may share information with trusted third-party service providers who perform functions on our behalf, such as cloud hosting, payment processing, and technical support. These providers are obligated to protect your information and use it only for the purposes for which it was disclosed.

Legal Compliance

We may disclose information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental regulation, or if we believe in good faith that such action is necessary to comply with legal obligations, protect our rights or property, or ensure the safety of our users or the public.

5. Data Storage, Security, and Retention

5.1. Security Measures

LifeTrace Technologies employs secure cloud servers and implements a variety of technical and organizational security measures, including encryption methods, to protect your data from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. While LifeTrace Technologies strives to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, no digital system is 100% secure. We continuously update our security protocols to mitigate risks.

5.2. Data Retention

  • User Data: We retain User Data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Service.
  • Memorial Data: Memorial Data is stored indefinitely to fulfill the platform's core purpose of legacy preservation, unless a verified account owner requests its deletion.

6. User Rights

In accordance with data protection laws, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access and Correction: You have the right to access and edit your Account Information at any time through your account settings.
  • Deletion Request: You may request the deletion of your Personally Identifiable Information from our servers. When you request to delete your personal information, LifeTrace Technologies will immediately, securely, and comprehensively delete all PII associated with your account, so it can no longer be accessed, subject to verification of your authority and any legal obligations we may have to retain certain information. You may also have the right to have your personal data exported in a commonly-used, machine-readable format.
  • Privacy Controls: You have control over the privacy settings for each memorial profile, allowing you to manage the visibility and accessibility of the content.

7. Children's Privacy

LifeKeeper is not intended for children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from minors. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child under 16 without verification of parental consent, LifeTrace Technologies will take steps to remove that information from our servers.

8. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

LifeTrace Technologies uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to improve platform performance, analyze traffic, and enhance user experience. Cookies are small data files stored on your device. You have the option to disable cookies through your browser settings, though this may affect the functionality of the Service.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

LifeTrace Technologies reserves the right to update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
